TOWSON FOURTH OF JULY PARADE

Message from the chair

Since my first year as parade chair, I have been
overwhelmed with the support that has been shown for
the parade at our fund raiser's (basket/bag bingo, bull
and oyster roast, and Towsontown Festival) as well as in
our annual fund raising drive.  Americans are always
willing to donate their time, talent, and finances to causes
they feel are worthwhile. I am thankful that so many feel
that the Towson 4th of July Parade is a worthy event.
The parade is our chance to say thank you to the men
and women who have served our country so that we can
enjoy the freedoms we have today. Many could not be
with us today because they have made the ultimate
sacrifice of their lives.
I recently revisited Mount Vernon and was reminded of
the men and women who fought so valiantly to start our
great nation.  It is thanks to them that we celebrate this
grand day. It is also a time to pause and give respect and
praise to all who have served in times of need so we
could continue to have the freedoms our forefathers
dreamed of and fought for.  These freedoms are part of
our daily lives and shouldn’t be taken for granted.
As we listen to the nightly world news and hear of the
oppression around the globe, it is often easy to sit back
and take for granted all we have.  Let us forever
remember the bravery and sacrifices of those who have
served our country so we can continue to be the land of
the free and the home of the brave.
Happy Birthday America!

In 2007, the first annual Spotlight on a
Community began a new tradition.
Every year we will choose a Towson
community to spotlight.  The
community will march as part of the
Grand Marshal contingent.  This new
feature will allow us to remind
everyone of Towsons rich history and
give new neighbors a brief, fun history
lesson.
